Acclaimed Australian band Thirsty Merc have announced details of their PledgeMusic fan engagement campaign to support the recording and release of their fourth studio album.
Last year saw the platinum selling band celebrate the 10 year anniversary of the release of their self-titled, double platinum, debut LP with an Acoustic Anniversary Album and national tour. Affectionately dubbed AAA, the album was a collection of acoustic interpretations of fan favourites including the band’s biggest hits - 20 Good Reasons, In The Summertime, Someday Someday, and Mousetrap Heart.
Those new recordings highlighted the band’s musicianship and the acoustic production perfectly showcased the world- class songwriting ability of the band’s lead singer, Rai Thistlethwayte and fuelled their desire to get back in the studio and get to work on all new material.
This time around though, the guys have decided to take things back to basics, recreating the formula that led to the creation of their incredibly successful debut album. The as yet untitled new album will be recorded at the very same studio they toiled away at over 10 years ago before they were household names, and in order to maintain complete creative control the band have also taken on the responsibility of funding the album … that is, with a little help from their friends of course!
The PledgeMusic campaign went live late on Monday, 25 May and in a little under 24 hours has raised 38% of its target.
Fans have the opportunity to get involved in the creation of the album with the PledgeMusic campaign offering packages from as little as $15 for the upcoming album as a download – up to a pledge of $5,000 for a live, acoustic Thirsty Merc performance at the recipient’s house for up to 80 people. There’s also everything from handwritten lyric sheets, to a birthday call from the band, to your name in the album’s liner notes all up for grabs.
Lead singer Rai Thistlethwayte said, “We haven’t had an album of new material out in 5 years, and the songs have been brewing, so this is shaping up to be a CRACKER!! What we’re MOST inspired by though, is that we will literally be in direct contact with our fans throughout this creative process. And because of that - we’re gonna work extra hard to deliver our Thirstiest work YET!”
The campaign has launched and fans can go to www.pledgemusic.com/projects/thirstymerc to get involved. The band have also confirmed that 5% of all money raised after the goal is reached will be paid forward to Bandaged Bear.
