2013 The Red Summer Tour Aussie Rock Extravaganza is the perfect family festival event.
Jimmy Barnes needs no introduction to Aussie audiences. As a legend both from his time fronting Cold Chisel and his top charting solo career, Barnes has toured the breadth of Australia. With 16 solo albums under his belt, he has an enviable back catalogue that makes for incredible live performances with songs like Working Class Man, When Your Love Is Gone and No Second Prize to name a few. Jimmy Barnes has headlined The Red Hot Summer Tour in previous years and is back by popular demand for the 2013 massive Aussie Rock Extravaganza. Following on from his busy year touring back with Cold Chisel, The Red Hot Summer Tour concerts are a chance for rock fans to see Jimmy Barnes at his best and enjoy an extensive catalogue which has made him an icon in the Australian music scene.
Another legendary member of Cold Chisel joins the 2013 Red Hot Summer Tour to showcase his own versatile music career. Ian Moss is without doubt one of the country’s most prolific guitarists. His own solo career has seen him release hits such as Telephone Booth and Tucker’s Daughter, as well as traverse the blues rock genre with releases that have seen him become a festival favourite. Ian’s most recent album Soul on West 53rd was a perfect representation of Ian’s skill as a guitarist and vocalist. An unassuming performer, music fans who haven’t seen Ian Moss in concert have missed out on a special experience indeed.
Fans will also have a chance to see Daddy Cool himself, Ross Wilson. Ross is well-known for his hits Eagle Rock, Come Said The Boy and Touch of Paradise
to name a few. In the 40 years of his career, he has been part of classic bands such as Mondo Rock, Daddy Cool and his own impressive solo career. Not only is Ross Wilson an incredible performer, but also one of the country’s most prolific songwriters. Over the years he’s written songs for the likes of Jimmy Barnes, The Screaming Jets, John Farnham, You Am I and Troy Cassar-Daley to name a few. Ross first fronted Daddy Cool in the 1970s, moving onto Mondo Rock in the late 1970s and 1980s. His live shows are rockin’ from start to finish and any Aussie music fan will find themselves singing along to hit after hit.
When it comes to iconic bands, Dragon has a long history with Aussie music fans. Moving from New Zealand to Australia in the 1970s, the Kiwi-come-Aussie band made an indelible mark and their music captured the hearts of a generation. Songs like April Sun in Cuba, Are You Old Enough and Rain became ingrained into the Australian psyche and Dragon, featuring Todd Hunter and his late brother Marc, were soon adopted by Australia as their own. After the untimely death of Marc Hunter, it was evident that fans were still desperate for more Dragon music. Established solo artist Mark Williams, who music lovers will remember from his hit No Mercy, joined the band as frontman and the new line-up has been touring the country ever since, garnering themselves a whole new generation of fans.
For music lovers looking for a special bit of concert showmanship, then they’re in for a real treat as Chocolate Starfish take to the stage. Fronted by the enigmatic Adam Thompson, the band is known for their high energy live performances. With songs like Four Letter Word, Mountain and You’re So Vain, Chocolate Starfish powered onto the Australian music scene in the 1990s and quickly secured themselves a space as an influential force. They produced two Top 10 albums and six Top 50 singles. While the band took a hiatus after their second album, they never officially broke up and essentially just took a break from touring every week. Returning to stage on the Red Hot Summer tour in 2013, this is a great opportunity for music fans to see one of the country’s most energetic bands in true festival style.
Additional special guest Swanee will also take audiences on a journey through his classic hits. John ‘Swanee’ Swan has had a long and illustrious career. He’s been part of the Aussie industry since he was 14-years-old, launching his career first as a drummer, then as a singer of some of the country’s most impressive bands. With hits such as If I Were A Carpenter, Lady What’s Your Name and Temporary Heartache. He joined the iconic The Party Boys in the mid-1980s as the new lead singer and helped produce hits like He’s Gonna Step On You Again, Hold Your Head Up and Gloria. Swanee’s string of classic hits make for the perfect festival atmosphere.
