HARVEST ‘N’ GRAZE Festival Brings Victoria's GREENEST ‘HARVEST’ AND FINEST ‘GRAZE’ to South Wharf Promenade in March

The highly reputed Harvest ‘n’ Graze Festival is heading to the city this March  and bringing the greenest ‘harvest’ and freshest ‘graze’ to South Wharf Promenade for one special day of jam-packed entertainment. With a live concert headlined by Guy Pearce and Darren Middleton (Powderfinger), this free family event will encapsulate the best of what Melbourne has to offer.

The Harvest ‘n’ Graze Festival is a beloved regional event, bringing food, entertainment and market stalls together for an incredible event for all ages. After 14 impressive regional events, for the first time ever, it is moving to the city. Situated on South Wharf between the Polly Woodside and the Convention Centre, the event will be hosted amongst the gorgeously restored heritage cargo sheds.

Festival representative Arabelle Danielson says the team are getting a real buzz about planning their first inner city event. “There’s no grass this time, but South Wharf has a unique urban elegance that will stylistically complement the great regional produce, craft and food stalls,” she says. “With the amazing bands and free kids entertainment, we expect the atmosphere will be electric.”

There is a host of live music playing across the day. In addition to the co-headliners of Guy Pearce and Darren Middleton, the line-up also includes legendary Aussie rockers Chocolate Starfish who kick off the fun at lunchtime as well as some of Melbourne’s revered musicians such as Stella Angelico, Canyon, Kingston Crown, Ash Ball duo and DJ Maloney.

Darren Middleton spent the past two decades as guitarist for beloved Australian band Powderfinger. Since then he has been working as a producer and has just laid ground to his debut solo album Transitions, a classic alternative pop release that now sees him sharing the stage with Guy Pearce. Guy needs no introduction to audiences, he is easily lauded as one of the country’s best exports with an acting career spanning 25 years. But what is not as well documented is his love of music, although that in itself shouldn’t be surprising looking back at his incredible career that has often seen him take the microphone. A focus on a music career resulted in Broken Bones, a collection of songs that represent Guy’s heart and soul and a co-headline show which plays Adelaide Fringe Festival this year.

Chocolate Starfish are widely reputed as one of the best live bands on the scene. Their energetic shows are all about the music and they don’t apologise for rockin’ hard. The band arrived smack bang in the middle of the grunge scene of the 1990s and refused to fit the mold. They had their own sound and their own direction; and this individualistic attitude earned them respect far and wide, something they’ve kept alive across the past two decades. Throughout their career, Chocolate Starfish had six top 40 singles and two top 10 albums on the Australian charts, gold and platinum record sales and an ARIA for ‘Most Popular Album’.

Stella Angelico was born to perform, as the daughter of a magician father and cult cabaret performer mother, she’s been receiving rave reviews since the release of her debut self-titled EP in 2012. Since then she’s graced the stages at Melbourne Festival, Melbourne International Jazz Festival, MONA FOMA and has also toured throughout the USA. Her ‘soul-pop-rock’ style will delight audiences. Canyon are well-reputed for their west-coast sound and signature four part harmonies. Their cool acoustic driven style features a repertoire of classic songs from the likes of Crosby Stills & Nash, Doobie Brothers, America and The Eagles to name a few. Described as a ‘musical road trip’ any time spent in the company of Canyon is highly enjoyable.

Kingston Crown bring together an individual blend of soul, funk, groove and spice to create a sound described as ‘electric soul’. The five-piece came together in 2013 and have already earned solid acclaim throughout Melbourne for their energetic live performances. They smashed into the scene after winning a Battle of the Bands and haven’t stopped since. Their debut EP – Show Me How – was released in late 2013 and was reputed as “evoking memories of dimly lit smoke filled jazz clubs”.

In addition to the music, there will also be up to 30 stalls of some of the state’s finest artisan delicacies and a host of regional producers to accompany South Wharf’s world-class restaurants and bars who will be open throughout the event. There will also be Fisher & Paykel cooking demonstrations to entice food enthusiasts. Shakespearean theatre company Page to Stage will be providing roving entertainment across the day doing pop-up performances around the crowd. The inspired team from The Dreaming Space will also be on hand to enchant children, with face painting, jumping castles and roving entertainment throughout the day.

Tentative running times for live music on the day include: 11am – DJ Maloney | 12pm – Ash Ball Duo | 12pm – Chocolate Starfish [Melbourne Public] | 1.15pm – Kingston Crown | 2.30pm – Canyon | 3.45pm – Stella Angelico | 4.30pm – Darren Middleton & Guy Pearce

The first city Harvest ‘n’ Graze Festival at South Wharf Promenade is held on Sunday 1st March 2015 from 10am-6pm. As the saying goes, the best things in life are free and this is a free event for all ages. Harvest ‘n’ Graze Festival will bring the music fun and festivities, South Wharf Promenade will be the restaurants, bars and shopping central and Melbourne will bring the most livable city in the world – it’s a match made in heaven. Don’t miss this exciting event for the whole family.
