GERMANY’S JOHNNY RIEGER BAND BRINGS THEIR ‘NEW GENERATION OF BLUES’
TO THE 2014 DOCKLANDS BLUES MUSIC FESTIVAL IN OCTOBER
DOCKLANDS BLUES MUSIC FESTIVAL – SUNDAY 5TH OCTOBER 2014 | 11AM-9PM
The impressive line-up at this year’s Docklands Blues Music Festival features some of the best blues artists in the state, as well as revered international headliner Johnny Rieger Band from Germany. Initially launched as the Docklands Arts, Laughs and Blues Festival, it has evolved over the years into its own featured event, to be held this year on Sunday 5th October. With over 20 acts playing continuous blues music over five indoor and outdoor stages as well as good ol’ southern blues cuisine, carnival rides and attractions, the festival has something to offer every member of the family. The five blues stages are all situated within the Docklands Harbour Town precinct and kicks off from 11am, wrapping up in the Wonderland Spiegeltent at 9pm.
After blazing onto the music scene with his debut release in 2008, it became clear that Johnny Rieger is like no other artist in Germany. With his distinctive voice and seemingly endless enthusiasm, Johnny manages to find the perfect balance between traditional blues while giving his songs a rocking and fresh twist. This enticing mix of old-school blues meets contemporary rock ‘n’ roll has led to the Johnny Rieger Band being dubbed
Supported by the elegant and charismatic bass of Matthias Scherer and the expressive rhythms of Michael Jochum on drums, the Johnny Rieger Band has played over an astounding 300 concerts, festivals and clubs all across the globe including the U.S.A, Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Poland – and now the German trio are set to shake, rattle and roll Melbourne’s iconic Wonderland Spiegeltent at Dockland Blues Music Festival.
Winner of the German Blues Challenge, the Johnny Rieger Band have been electrifying their audiences and critics alike. With the release of their second album Come Closer last year, the band found themselves on Australian shores touring alongside fellow Docklands Blues Music Festival performer John McNamara. Johnny’s spine tingling, and occasionally shocking, intensity of his guitar playing had Australian audiences hooked on the German’s modern interpretation of the blues and earned Johnny Rieger the respect of the Melbourne blues scene. The band’s live shows are genuine good fun, with an electric mix of blues, soul and rock with plenty of smoking fretboard work and blues party atmosphere.
This year’s Docklands Blues Music Festival also features the likes of Justin Yap Band, Kelly Auty’s Wild Women, MBAS Youth in Blues, Mojo T’ree, Nick Charles, Oscar Lalor Band, Rod Paine & The Fulltime Lovers, Blue Eyes Cry, Brian Fraser, Dan Dinnen, Desert Blues Cartel, Dreamboogie, Greg Dodd & The Hoodoo Men, Jesse Valach & Blues Mountain, Jimi Hocking Band, John McNamara, Safari Motel, Sweet Felicia & The Honeytones, Wayne Jury and Supporting Women in Blues Band.
