DOCKLANDS BLUES MUSIC FESTIVAL returns for 2015 with a massive New Orleans themed family-friendly free event!

HEADLINED BY USA BLUES GREAT CHRIS CAIN & A HOST OF INCREDIBLE LOCAL BLUES MUSICIANS

The renowned Docklands Blues Music Festival returns in 2015 with a massive event, tagged as Goin’ Down To New Orleans. After a jam-packed musical showcase last year, the impressive festival brings 12-hours of non-stop music featuring 23 bands across four stages. International headliner Chris Cain (USA) and a host of Australia’s most revered blues talents, as well as some incredible local Melbourne performers, will ensure there is something for all music lovers.

Hosted within the Wonderland Fun Park and Wonderland Spiegeltent in Docklands, with stages around the Harbour Town and Melbourne Star precinct, the Docklands Blues Music Festival stands out from its contemporaries in that it is an entirely free events, focused around providing a cultural outlet for the waterside suburb’s residents and visitors. Organiser and Wonderland Spiegeltent owner Melissa Head says the festival has grown since its inception and is now considered an important part of the blues music calendar.

“We expect the festival to be bigger and better with more bands and more continuous music running throughout the day,” says Melissa. “We want people to have plenty of options of stages so they can wander around and take in a different sound, relax, have a bite to eat or grab a drink in a bar and have a dance. Last year was a huge success with the party atmosphere and we placed it in one precinct, which helped people find it and have easy access to the event. The festival features something for all ages - the precinct is completely family friendly and all the stages in the Harbour Town shopping precinct and Melbourne Star provide free entertainment.”

Headliner Chris Cain really needs no introduction to blues enthusiasts. With deep, soulful vocals that recall BB King and a thick toned Gibson guitar-sound reminiscent of his mentor Albert King, Chris’ bluesy jazz-tinged San Francisco style picks up on all his musical influences. That, along with his father’s authentic blues-roots heritage and the intensity and passion of his mother’s Greek ancestry make for a uniquely expressed blues experience. This is the first time Chris has performed at the Docklands Blues Music Festival and his showcase at the festival’s finale is guaranteed to be unforgettable.

The line-up also features the likes of The Melbourne Jukes, Room 15, Jesse Valach & Blues Mountain, Safari Motel, Paulie Bignell & The Thornbury Two and Sweet Felicia & The Honeytones (featuring Eddy Boyle) performing on the Melbourne Star stage. The Harbour Town Mall stage includes performances Dog Gone South, Wilson & White, Miss Whiskey and Nick Charles. An equally impressive line-up takes to the stage at the Harbour Town Hotel with Peninsula Youth in Blues, MBAS Youth in Blues, Forth Avenue Band (featuring Women In Blues), Southbound Tram and Black Pearl on the bill. The main stage inside the Wonderland Spiegeltent not only features headliner Chris Cain, but an enviable list of the who’s who of Australian blues. The non-stop entertainment features Isaiah B Brunt, Blue Eyes Cry, Mick Dog’s Bone Yard, Alex Burns Blues Band, Kelly Auty’s Wild Women, Dream Boogie, Gregg Dodd & The Hoodoo Men and the ever-impressive Lloyd Spiegel.

The 2015 festival will not only feature four indoor and outdoor stages within some licenced seated venues, but there will also be good ole Southern cuisine to embrace the Goin’ Down To New Orleans theme. Add to that carnival rides and attractions, thanks to the Wonderland Fun Park, and continuous music, the Docklands Blues Music Festival is truly an event for all ages.

The Docklands Blues Music Festival runs from 10.30am – 10.30pm on Sunday 4th October 2015 at Harbour Town Docklands [Melbourne Star Observation Wheel and Wonderland Spiegeltent Precinct]. This is a FREE all day music event and everyone is welcome. There is also a family day event the weekend prior [Sunday 27th September] as a curtain raiser to the festival.
