Known for its unforgettable magic musical moments, it’s time to announce details of the special guest presenters who will help induct Models, The Loved Ones, John Williamson, Johnny Young and the church into the 2010 ARIA HALL OF FAME, at Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion on Wednesday, 27 October, 2010. The event (which will feature a unique collaboration with partner SBS’ RocKwiz - broadcast on Saturday, 30 October at 9.20pm) also promises to deliver some electric, once in a lifetime, musical performances.
The divine Wendy Matthews will step up to induct her old friends MODELS into the ARIA HALL OF FAME. An artist par excellence with a sublime, expressive voice, Wendy Matthews sang backing vocals for the Models smash hit Out of Mind Out of Sight and became a semi-permanent member of the band. A Models line-up that will feature Sean Kelly, Andrew Duffield, Roger Mason, Mark Ferrie, Barton Price and James Valentine are set to blast through a couple of their classic songs on the night.
In a fitting tribute, legendary concert promoter, music impresario and now author of the hit book Hey, You in the Black T-Shirt, Michael Chugg will induct The Loved Ones into the ARIA HALL OF FAME. A long time fan of the band, Chugg spent much of his misspent youth in Tasmania in the 60s following them around and then again all over Melbourne when he moved there from the Apple Isle. Now Mr Chugg will come face to face with The Loved Ones once more as they celebrate their entry into the ARIA HALL OF FAME. Performing one of The Loved Ones’ hits with the RocKwiz Orchestra on the night will be multi ARIA Award winner, Diesel.
Leader of the Australian Greens, Senator Bob Brown will make a special guest appearance to induct legendary singer / songwriter John Williamson into the ARIA HALL OF FAME. As a performer who has spent his 40-year career writing lyrical protest songs, John Williamson’s passion for maintaining Australia's wilderness continues. John Williamson will take his trusty guitar to the ARIA HALL OF FAME stage to perform on the night and performing a second song in his honour will be multi Golden Guitar winning artist, Sara Storer.
She won our hearts as a seven year old on Young Talent Time. Now, in what will be a moment to remember, pop chanteuse Tina Arena will fly in from her home in Paris to induct her former mentor Johnny Young into the ARIA HALL OF FAME. Now one of Australia's most successful and versatile singers, Tina Arena will also perform a special tribute to the inimitable Johnny Young, backed by the RocKwiz Orchestra. Also performing a musical tribute on the night will be Central Coast pop-punksters, Short Stack.
Always an exciting live proposition the church, featuring Steve Kilbey, Peter Koppes, Marty Willson-Piper and Tim Powles, will perform two of their most memorable songs on the night. With that intangible quality that
transcends the fashion of the day, the church will bring their sparkling electric poetry into the ARIA HALL OF FAME. Inducting the church into the 2010 ARIA HALL OF FAME will be TBC, with current chanteuse on the rise, Washington, performing a church classic with the RocKwiz Orchestra.
ARIA are pleased to announce that this year’s ARIA Hall of Fame is sponsored by Sony Music on behalf of TANGIER – the final masterpiece by Billy Thorpe released on Friday, 22 October.
Nearly a decade in the making, Tangier is, in the words of Jack Thompson, “a major Australian musical work” and to celebrate its release, ARIA have devised a tribute to Billy and Tangier which will be performed at the ARIA Hall of Fame on Wednesday, 27 October.
